Become a part of your Community

Volunteering at Community Hospital of Long Beach CHLB) is a rewarding and fun experience. Volunteers are a very important part of CHLB’s commitment to providing outstanding service to our patients and to the community.
Whatever your area of interest, there is volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers assist at the Main Lobby and Emergency Department Information desks, work in the Gift Shop, and provide support to patient care personnel as well as other staff members.
Volunteers are thoroughly trained and placed in their area of interest. Hours and schedules are flexible.

Students find that volunteering at CHLB is a great way to fulfill service hour requirements. It is an interesting and exciting way to learn about the field of healthcare.

Community Hospital of Long Beach Auxiliary

Established in March 1957 members of the Auxiliary have a rich tradition of volunteer service. During the months of the hospital’s closure members of the Auxiliary worked shoulder-to-shoulder with staff, board members and volunteers from the greater community to ready the hospital for reopening. They painted, raised money, scrubbed floors, talked to friends and neighbors about the reopening, gave testimony at City Council meetings, inventoried supplies and equipment, stuffed envelopes and answered phones. Every activity strengthened the Auxiliary members commitment to our hospital.

Since the reopening in June 2001, Auxiliary volunteers are back interacting with patients, patient families and visitors as well as hospital staff. They assist the nursing staff on patient floors, perform administrative functions, greet visitors and escort patients and families.

Volunteer opportunities exist in the Gift Shop, Clerical Pool, Information Desk, Inpatient Transportation and Patient Relations. Volunteers receive training and are assigned a job suited to individual preference and schedule.
