Volunteering at Community Hospital of Long Beach CHLB) is a rewarding and fun experience. Volunteers are a very important part of CHLB’s commitment to providing outstanding service to our patients and to the community. Whatever your area of interest, there is volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers assist at the Main Lobby and Emergency Department Information desks, work in the Gift Shop, and provide support to patient care personnel as well as other staff members. Volunteers are thoroughly trained and placed in their area of interest. Hours and schedules are flexible. Students find that volunteering at CHLB is a great way to fulfill service hour requirements. It is an interesting and exciting way to learn about the field of healthcare. Founded in 1984 the group’s name reflects the “Spanish style” entrance to Community Hospital of Long Beach. Las Damas de la Plaza (The Ladies of the Courtyard) was formed as a support group to “fundraise” and to “friend raise.” Membership is limited to 50 active members plus sustaining and life members. Meetings are held at various times during the year. Since its founding Las Damas has raised in excess of $1 million to benefit hospital programs and purchase equipment. For more information on Las Damas and sponsorship opportunities, please contact Fran Bylund at (714) 846-1537. Phyllis Bowles President 2008-2009 Marni Stegeman and Anne Cramer Co-Founders |
